The IIA raises CIA exam fees from 4 January 2027
The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) has published its 2027 prices for the Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP), the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) and the CIA Challenge Exam, effective 4 January 2027. On the new list, every CIA exam part costs more for members and non-members alike, while the application fee rises for members and falls for non-members. Here are the figures as shown on The IIA’s website on 28 October 2026.
CIA fees in 2026 and 2027, in US dollars

Sources: The IIA’s pricing page (as shown on 28 October 2026) and 2027 pricing page. The totals exclude membership dues and taxes. The IIA notes that these prices apply in the United States, Canada and select countries, and may differ where exams run through National Institutes; taxes may also apply. Outside North America, it asks candidates to contact their National Institute to verify pricing and taxes. In every case, the fees are those in force when you register.
What the change means
- Members pay more on every item. The full path rises by $160, from $990 to $1,150.
- Non-members pay $45 less to apply but more for each exam part. The full path rises by $25, from $1,515 to $1,540.
CIA Challenge Exam fees change too: the application becomes $185 for members and $245 for non-members (from $150 and $380), and the exam $995 and $1,335 (from $845 and $1,245). This one-exam route is currently open to qualifying active CPA, CA and CISA holders, and is offered in English, French and Spanish.
Before you register
- The IIA invites candidates to act before the change if they want to lock in today’s rates. You can only register for an exam once your application is approved, so allow time for approval.
- Non-members who apply now pay $45 more than they would from 4 January. That only pays off if the parts they also buy before the change save more: $30 on Part 1 and $20 each on Parts 2 and 3.
- A registration is valid for 180 days from payment or until your programme expires, whichever comes first; check its expiry date in your IIA account. If you do not sit by then, the registration is forfeited unless you buy the one-time 75-day extension in time (not available for the Challenge Exam).
- Buy only the parts you will realistically sit in that window: IIA fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. The member price applies only if your membership shows as active before you pay.
- You have three years from your acceptance into the programme to complete it, and each retake needs a new registration and payment.
